Fashion Week came and went and left me with a cold. ha. That’s what I get for trying to attend every show that I highlighted on my personal fashion week agenda and hitting every hot after- party in town! A human cannot go through that in a week and come out perfectly healthy.
On the brighter side, it was a week of fabulous talent displayed in some of the most amazing galleries, armories, and of course, The Tents at Bryant Park. I often find the shows at Bryant Park a bit genetic with a few exceptions of course- Lacoste, Miss Sixty, DVF, Rosa Cha, Zac Posen, Alexandre Herchcovitch, Rock & Replublic, and Max Azria. The shows that were held off-site are usually far more creative and interesting, a clear example of that is the Marc Jacobs show which this year was a jaw-dropper with a collection so eccentric that the reviews were so mixed and everyone’s interpretation was different. Another show that made big headlines was the Rodarte which was held at the famous Gagosian Gallery in Chelsea. The models walked down the runway and through a broken-down wall to showcase some of the most intricate and detailed dresses of the season. A true work of art. And those fabulous Christian Louboutin shoes that the models were wearing were made of real wires that had such a sex appeal to them. A must-have accessory.
The most successful collections this season however came from the less expected designers (in my opinion) such as Alexander Wang, Cynthia Rowley, Marchesa, Rodarte, and of course the ever AMAHZING Oscar de la Renta!
The usual show-stoppers such as Zac Posen, Proenza Schouler, Rock & Republic, Max Azria, and Donna Karan were less successful this season with collections that didn’t offer something new or showed much creativity. Maybe the economic crisis had something to do with it? who knows…but these designers are usually the ones I look forward the most about seeing the collections and they have disappointed me a little this season.
Anyways, cheers to another AMAHZING fashion week and let’s count down until February!
